Trade agreements and international technology transfer

Abstract This is the first paper that analyzes for a global sample of countries how trade agreements include technology-related provisions impact exports goods, and this differs depending on technology content goods. It includes estimations structural gravity model panel 176 over period 1995–2015. The differentiates between relating transfer, technical cooperation, research development, patents intellectual property rights. also estimates differences in these effects whether flow question with similar or different levels development. main results indicate regional (RTAs) contain generate significantly higher volume than RTAs do not, after controlling depth RTAs. For ratify such provisions, it technology-intensive goods increase most. Trade including have heterogeneous effect varies by income level trading partners depends extent to which RTA incorporates other provisions.
